Beirut Biomimics Impossible Lebanon Challenge
The COVID-19 Pandemic has had catastrophic consequences on the economic, environmental and social field. In light of the current situation, we the Beirut Biomimics, have decided to launch a challenge that will be able to help high schoolers express themselves on a louder platform. The point of this challenge is to come up with a solution for one of these fields that could hopefully be implemented. We therefore call out every Lebanese High schooler (9th to 12th grade) to write an essay in the language of their choice (English/Arabic/French) with a chance to win $1,000.

The contest will be composed of two rounds:
1st round: All high schoolers that sign up are automatically considered applicants. Every applicant has to choose a category between environmental, social and economical. The chosen category will be the main topic of the essay.
Question 1: If you were chosen by the Lebanese community to find a solution (for one of these fields: social, environmental, economical) moving into the post COVID era, what would it be?
Answer the first question in an essay of 700 to 1000 words.
Start: Monday 25th of May 2020 at 12:00 am
Deadline: Sunday 7th of June 2020 at 11:59 pm
Results: Monday 22nd of June 2020 at 07:00 pm
2nd round: The 9 chosen applicants are the winners of the previous round and are considered the finalists of the competition and the only ones that are allowed to answer the second question.
Question 2: Now that you have found your solution, use the Biomimicry 3.8 methodology to develop your idea.
Answer the second question in an essay of 700 to 1000 words.

For the applicants to better understand the methodology, we will send all the candidates links on the topic of Biomimicry. Furthermore, the 9 finalists will have to go through two zoom calls with Dr. Kimberly Samaha and the Beirut Biomimics for any questions or guidance. There will be three final winners, each will win $1,000 and get their essays published on multiple platforms (Born global foundation website, An-nahhar newspaper, ...).
The essays will be graded by a panel of judges. Their names will remain anonymous until the end of the contest.

التحدّي:
لا يمكننا أن ننفي أنّ وباء الكورونا قد ضرب لبنان تاركاً آثار كارثيّة في المجالات الاقتصادية البيئة والاجتماعية. في ضوء الوضع الحالي قررنا أن نطلق تحدّي بين جميع تلاميذ الصفوف الثانوية من الصف التاسع إلى الدرجة الثانية عشرة. تسمح هذه المنافسة مساعدة التلميذ بتحرير أفكاره وإيصالتها إلى جمهور كبير.إنّ الهدف من هذه المبادرة هو الحصول على حلٍّ للحدّ من المشاكل في إحدى من هذه المجالات مؤملين انه ننفّذها.
لذلك نشجّع كلّ تلميذ لبناني في إحدى الصفوف الثانوية إلى كتابة مقالة في اللغة العربية أو الإنكليزيّة و الفرنسية للمشاركة و الربح.

إن التحدي يتكون من مرحلتين:
المرحلة الأولى:
كل طالب من الصف الثانوي سجّل إسمه على الموقع الإلكتروني يعتبر متقدم للمباراة. عندئذٍ، يختار فئة واحدة من بين المطروحات (اجتماعية ،بيئية، اقتصادية). طبعاً، يدور موضوع المقالة حول الفئة المختارة.
السؤال:
إذا أختارك المجتمع اللبناني للعثور على حلٍّ للحدّ من مشكلة واحدة تتبع عهد وباء الكورونا في إحدى من المجالات المذكورة أعلى ماذا تقترح؟
وسّع أفكارك في مقالة تحتوي بين 700 و 1000 كلمة.

المرحلة الثانية:
بعد الجزء الأول نحتفظ بتسعة طلاب تميزوا في كتاباتهم وأفكارهم. هؤلاء التلاميذ يتأهّلون مباشرةً للتصفيات النهائية التي تدور حول السؤال الثاني والأخير وهو:

الآن عثرت على الحلّ المناسب، عليك أن تستوحي من مجال محاكات الطبيعة (Biomimicry 3,8 Methodology) لتوسّع فكرتك.
على مقالتك أن تحتوي بين 700 و1000 كلمة.

لكلّ قادم فرصة أيضاً للتعرّف بمجال محاكات الطبيعة, سيرسل فريق Beirut Biomimics روابط متعلقة بهذه المادّة ليتمكّن كلّ طالب أن يفهم هذا اسلوب التعامل الجديد.
أخيراً يمكنكم أيضاً الإتصال ب Dr Kimberly Samaha و فريق Beirut Biomimics عبر موقع Zoom لأسئلة و الإرشادات.
في نهاية هذه المرحلة، سينل ثلاث طلاب فائزين على 1000$ بالإضافة إلى نشر مقالاتهم على منصّات عديدة (جريدة النّهار وموقع Born Global Foundation،…)
جماعة قضاة ستستلم تصحيح المقالات و ستصدر الحكم الاخير والنتائج النهائية. إنّ أسمائهم ستبقى مجهولة حتى نهاية التحدي.
